You should try imagining Mussolini running the United States. Can you imagine how life would be like. Well, I believe the only way he ca rule the United States is by propaganda. After World War I, everyone was seeking for help in most countries. People would be gullible enough to believe in anything, they just were seeking for guidance. As soon as he gets a lot of supporters, there would be no way to stop him. Now, he could have done that after the first world war just because of the economic crisis everyone was facing. If it were to be present day America, his plan would fail. America and Americans are too stabilized to be gullible and follow Mussolini. America is based on democracy, equality, and freedom. The power are really in the hands of the people. We get to decide who is the best person to run this country. Mussolini doesn't have enough power or army to stop the people.

The Great depression was a time of sadness for our nation as well as other nations too. One of the main causes for the depression was the crash of the stock market. There was a less demand for raw materials.Since much of the cost was spent for the war farmers, peasents, miners and herders suffered economic loss. Also there was an overproduction of goods.
People had responded to the depression in many ways. For one thing there was a close in banks and businesses. Many people came to rely on soup kitchens as a main source of food. Some people came to lose faith in democracy.Instead people got influenced into communism and militirasim.
A leader named Mohandas Gandhi lead the indian National movement. He used a method called civil disobedience(the refusal to obey unjust laws) rather than using bloodshed were the way to win rights. He used tactics such as boy-cotting, or refusing to buy, british goods. He also rejected the caste system and believed that everyone had equal rights including women. He wanted the muslims and the hindus to come together in order to bring peace. India achieved independence in 1947 which was one year before Gandhi's death.

The Great Depression began in October 1929, when the stock market in the United States dropped rapidly. Another cause of the Great Depression is credit. The concept of credit is buying now and paying later.Thousands of investors lost large sums of money and many were wiped out, lost everything. The 'crash' led the U.S into the Great Depression. The ensuing period ranked as the longest and worst period of high unemployment and low business activity in modern times. Banks, stores and factories were closed and left millions of Americans jobless and homeless. Many people came to depend on the government or charity to provide them with food.

The Depression became a worldwide business slump of the 1930's and it affected almost all nations. It led to a sharp decrease in world trade as each country tried to protect their own industries and products by raising tariffs on imported goods. Some nations changed their leader and their type of government to solve their economic conditions. In Germany, poor economic conditions led to the rise to power of the dictator Adolf Hitler. The Japanese invaded China, developing industries and mines in Manchuria. Japan claimed this economic growth would relieve the depression.

Gandhi developed the principle of satyagraha “truth-force.” In English, satyagraha is called
passive resistance or civil disobedience—the deliberate and public refusal to obey an unjust law. Gandhi said, “Complete civil disobedience is a rebellion without the element of violence. One perfect civil resister is enough to win the battle of Right and Wrong.” In 1920, under Gandhi’s influence, the Congress Party endorsed civil disobedience and nonviolence as the means to
achieve independence.

Gandhi launched his campaign of civil disobedience to weaken
the British government’s authority and economic power. He called
on Indians to refuse to buy British goods, attend government schools, pay British taxes, and vote in elections. He urged all of Indian people to weave their own cloth. He wore only homespun cloth and encouraged Indians to follow his example. As a result of the boycott, the sale of British cloth in India dropped sharply. Gandhi’s weapon of civil disobedience took an economic toll on the British. They were struggled to keep trains running and factories operating.

--The Great Depression
The 1920’s, also known as the “Roaring Twenties”, was a time of great joy and prosperity. Times and styles were changing dramatically during this decade and people. Suddenly, on October 29, 1929, also known as “Black Tuesday”, the stock market crashed. This is one of the many causes that initiated the Great Depression. The Great Depression was an economic slump in all industrialized nations and those who exported raw materials. Personal income, tax revenues, prices, profits, and international trade declined radically. Any countries that depended mainly on industry were hit hard.
The Great Depression had many causes. We have already learned that one was the stock market crash. The speculation in the 1920’s was the only thing that kept the stock market high. People bought everything on credit, which basically means buy now, pay later, except in this case no one ever paid. There was overproduction of goods. Investors and factories lost a lot of money, which meant the speculation was artificial, causing the stock market to crash. Another cause was that people would hoard money because they have a liquidity inclination. This basically means that people wanted to have their assets in an exchangeable form such as money. Unfortunately, The U.S. had a gold standard for its money, which means that the government promised to redeem cash with a specific amount of gold. Since people were hoarding money, they money supply dropped severely. Also, the money circulating the economy was completely dependant on the amount of gold available, so money supple was stiff. The Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act also had a big effect. This act increased taxes by 50 percent in the U.S. The misdistributions of wealth also contributed to the Great Depression. Money was given unequally between the rich and middle-class, or the industry and the agriculture. This imbalance created an unstable economy.
The depression caused most of the population to lose jobs, homes, and probably everything else they had. People were living in dumps and dependant on soup kitchens. Most countries set up relief programs, and many went through political upheavals. Many looked at rising leaders, such as Adolf Hitler, Antonio de Oliveira Salazar, and Benito Mussolini. These leaders helped them through the struggle and then became dictators. The majority depended on their governments for charity and support.

--Gandhi and Nonviolence
Mohandas Karmchand Gandhi was a major political and spiritual leader of India. He contributed greatly to the Indian independence movement. Gandhi believed Satyagraha, which was a philosophy based on truth and resistance of evil through nonviolence. This is English is in civil disobedience, which was the refusal to obey unjust laws. He didn’t believe that bloodshed was needed to win one’s rights.
Gandhi influenced the Congress Party endorse in nonviolent ways to gain independence. He launched a campaign to weaken British government’s authority and economic power. He told Indians to stop buying British goods and to stop attending government schools. He didn’t want Indians to pay British taxes and told them to weave their own clothing. He believed in woman liberation, and despised the caste system. He wanted brotherhood among all religions. Gandhi is famous for his “Dandi Salt March” in 1930, which was disobedience in the British salt tax imposed on India.
Everyone boycotted and as a result, British sales decreased. Eventually, civil disobedience took a toll on Britain, and they began struggling to keep their own business and factories open. India won independence in 1947. Gandhi died a year later.

Period 5- Vasquez, Mike

1) The Causes of the Great Depression are still a matter of active debate among economists. The decrease of Stock Markets is one factor for the cause of the Great Depression.

After the Great Depression began, people of Italy and Germany were so desperate. That people started relying on Fascists leaders Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini.

2) Gandhi used words instead of physical activity (Violence, Gestures, etc.). His words were the most powerful and passionate among other others such as Mother Teresa.

The causes of the Great Depression were many. In fact, not all historians and economists even agree about them. However, there is no denying that the Great Depression had a huge impact on the United States and the world. It led to a change in the way the federal government assisted US citizens through the implementation of Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal policies. More than this, however, the impact that the Great Depression had around the world led to the rise of extremism in many countries. The most notable example of this was Hitler's rise as the head of the Nazi Party. His economic programs helped pull Germany out of its depression. At the same time, his increased power allowed him to institute his horrible policies against the Jewish people that resulted in the holocaust along with his invasion of many surrounding countries that would lead to World War II.

THE GREAT DEPRESSION-
Some of the main causes of the great depression are that the stock market crashed, economy failed and and no more gods were being produced. The nation just got out world war and every country that was in it was suffering. The spent so much money on the war that now they are facing a downfall. The great depression was the reason for rulers like Hitler to come and even cause more chaos. Before the war there was a overproduction of raw materials and after the war there wasn't any left to be produced into goods. Banks closed down people started giving up on their government. People were ready to do anything to get out of this situation .Unemployment was very high, people were starving riots were breaking out ,people weren't getting Medicare, social security or any type of help from the government. These causes lead to one of the greatest economic downfall in history.

GHANDI'S PRINCIPLES-
Ghandi's principles of non-violence were truth, nonviolence, vegetarianism, Brahmacharya, simplicity and faith.Ghandi always believed in being honest, truthful and always devoted to helping the ones in need.He achieved his goals by learning from his own mistakes and conducting experiments. He said this about non-violence, "There are many causes that I am prepared to die for but no causes that I am prepared to kill for".He believed to live a simple life you have to believe in simplicity. He would go days without talking because he said this is a way to reiterate everything in you mind. Also he wouldn't read the newspaper because he said it caused more confusion to him about the world. He believed in all religions to be equal, and this is what he called faith. He stopped dressing like the westerners he started wearing dhotis to be accepted by the poorest in India.Incorporating all these ideas in a government lead people to start following him and his sayings. A lot of people found him a very peaceful leader . He ruled India for about 10 years. He was one of the greatest non-violent leaders in history.

The Great Depression

In the 1920s, the economy of nations around the world was rocketing up. This decade was known as the “Roaring Twenties.” The economy was strong and industrial nations bustled. However, all this rapid change in the economy and lifestyles brought everything to its knees. People suffered from poverty, starvation and depression due to lack of income and funds. As a result, citizens turned to people like Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini.

The most apparent and obvious cause of the Great Depression was the stock market crash of October 29, 1929. This crash is also known as Black Tuesday. The crash led into the Great Depression. It was easily one of the biggest causes for the Great Depression.

Another cause of the Great Depression was the credit system. Credit was a system in which consumers could “buy now, pay later.” Consumers bought with money they did not have, and got knee deep into trouble.
The Great Depression affected nations all around the world. International trade greatly decreased because nations placed tariffs (taxes) on imported goods. The depression caused people to move out of their shelters and live on the streets. Food was so scarce that people even went to free soup kitchens and waited in lines for hours to get a bowl of soup.

Ghandi’s Laws of Non-violence

Ghandi strongly believed in the power of non-violence. He believed that the power of non-violence was stronger than brute force. Ghandi was one of the main people to lead India to independence against Britain. He believed in Satyagraha. In English, Satyagraha is translated to “civil disobedience.”

With Satyagraha, Ghandi got Indians to not follow unjust British laws. One example of this is when Ghandi told people to weave their own clothing, and to not buy British products. The result of this weakened British economy in India, and eventually India gained their independence.

There were many reasons that causes the Great Depression. One of the main causes that caused the Great Depression was the market crash. The unfair wealth was one of the factor that caused the Great Depression. The higher class got more money then the middle class which caused problems. The imbalanced wealth creaded an unstable economy. It lead to the large market crashes which made a lot of changes.

A philosophy was introduced in the 20th century by Mahatma Gandhi called satyagraha which means "insistence on truth" or "the devotion to truth". He believed that theren't should be any bloods to achieve something.

The causes of the Great Depression were the stock market crash, high inflation, the economy at the time was highly unstable, high use of credit, and buying stocks on margin.

A famous revolt from Gandhi was the Salt March, (British put a high tax on salt, Gandhi and his father went to the cost and made the salt water dry out and collect their own salt). His "principles of non violence", were things like sit ins, marches, protests, no brute force or violence, he thought that non violence was stronger than violence.

1.) There were many causes to the Great Depression. The main cause for the Great Depression was the unequal distribution of wealth throughout the businesses in 1920's, and the extensive stock market speculation that took place during that same decade. Another reason is that the high class people received more money and became more wealth while the middle and lower class received close to nothing. This causes conflict between the people. The way that people resounded to the Great Depression was that people began to rely on Fascists leader should as Benito Mussolini and Adolf Hitler.

2.) Gandhi's principles of non-violence were that he believed that everyone should be honest, truthful and always able to helping the people that are in need. Gandhi used non-violence ways to achieve his goal by telling the people that they didn’t need to fight to get their way. He also talked to people about his ideas and they became like his followers.

What were the causes of the Great Depression. How did world economics respond to this depression?

The Great Depression was caused by the collapse of banks all around the world in 1929. The Federal reserve's inaction as one bank collapsed after the other in a domino effect brought the depression to such severe levels. When the FED stopped controlling the rate of inflation the world fell flat on itself. 10 years before the Great Depression, the Gold Standard was removed from dollar bills making them effectively worthless. When the banks witheld any funds and refused to lend anything of monetary value their gridlock on America and the world became absolute. The passing of the Federal Reserve Bill was secret and signed by banking constituants on the international scale. Families such as the Rockefellers and the Rothschilds played a major hand in this consolidation of power. Oil and banks rule the world.

Describe Gandhi's principles of non-violence. Explain how Gandhi used non-violence to achieve his goals.

Mahatma Gandhi's principles of nonviolence were absolute. Under no circumstances were any physisical altercation to take place. He professed a government where the army's only propganda is nonviolence. Where the police, merely guide and unite for peace and no weapons are every utilized. When met by violence let the true "anarchy be a nonviolent democracy". His ideas were extrme with such quotes as "When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall — think of it, always."

"There are many causes that I am prepared to die for but no causes that I am prepared to kill for."

The science of war leads one to dictatorship, pure and simple. The science of non-violence alone can lead one to pure democracy...Power based on love is thousand times more effective and permanent than power derived from fear of punishment....It is a blasphemy to say non-violence can be practiced only by individuals and never by nations which are composed of individuals...The nearest approach to purest anarchy would be a democracy based on non-violence...A society organized and run on the basis of complete non-violence would be the purest anarchy...
Gandhi has managed to lead millions upon millions of followers and his teachings inspired the works of Civil Rights leaders around the world, especially Martin Luther king Jr.
Gandhi's ultimate goal was to unite all of the ethnic sects of India and had almost succeeded in eliminating the caste systems before being assasinated on Januray 30, 1948.

Some of the causes of the great depression were of course the stock market crash during the late 1920’s which made millions of people loose their businesses and their money. Another cause was that when production of goods increases, manufacturing wages increases at a fast rate. When the production slowed down, the wages also slowed down giving people less money gained form hard work. Then there was the big gap between middle and rich classes. If that occurred, then the middle class will not have enough money to spend for the goodness of the economy.

Gandhi’s principals of non-violence are basically: not to confuse the people with the major problem occurring, never to use harmful meanings to solve problems or indulgence, and to seek for long term consequences when solving a problem. He used these principals to influence people from India to revolt the British government into gaining the independence of India in which was succeeded.

The great depression was caused from many things, but mainly the fact that people bought things on credit ruined the economy of businesses. However the great depression also hit the whole world as well. Other countries also lost alot of money because of the fact that no one had enough money to buy anything. During the depression Italy and Germany put all their trust into two powerful facist leaders, Mussolini in Italy, and Hitler in Germany. Since these countries believed all the lies said by the facist leaders, those two countries ended up becoming allies and working together for the majority of world war II.

Gandhi was possibly one of the calmest people on earth, he thought that violence wasnt the answer to anything. Violence only calls for more violence. He wanted India to be independant from Britain. He asked those who listened to not give into the British, he didnt want the people to buy British goods or go to British schools. That way the british wont gain any money, and the government would weaken. Eventually the independence movement worked, and Britain's authority in India had become very weak. Then India won their independace in 1947, sadly Gandhi died the following year.

The Great depression was the worst period for the United states, and one of the worst for many nations on the outside. It mostly happened because of the Stock Market crash. The U.S. is one of the biggest economies in the world, take that from it, and the world just doesn't function right. And plus, during this period was the Great War, which needs allot do goods, weapons, uniforms, ammo...
People responded to the depression by doing things like going to soup kitchens for food, closing down banks and businesses.

Ghandi used his system of civil disobedience, which means protesting against unjust laws by means of non violence, in order to gain independence for India from the British. They used methods like boycotting for example, which is the non consumption of British goods and services, thus weakening the British economy. Then in the end 1 year before Ghandi died, India got its independence.
