I would be very scared in case I was harmed in any way.I would see that the nation was insecure because everyone was scared and many went into hiding.
I would also be scared about the things I would hear on the radio. the radio would say about the terrible things that had happened.
Me and my parents would all go to hiding somewhere safe.We wouldn't know when something would occur. That war is disastrous, frightening, and we should never declare war again.

It is 1960, the height of the Cold War. Everyone is being extra cautious because they're scared of the thought of a nuclear war occurring. A nuclear bomb can be thrown at any time at any place. It's just so frightening to be living this way. I wish it could go back to the way it was so I can hang out with friends again. My parents don't let me go anywhere, not even to the store. Everyday my family and I practice our safety evacuation plan. The only thing anyone can do is stay hopeful.

If I was living back in the 1960’s during the height of Cold War, I would be really scared. Knowing that this Cold War could take into a bad turn and we might be getting into another bloody war. Also knowing that this time, there is a weapon that can destroy everything and anything. I would be terrified, thinking that our enemies could drop the nuclear weapon (atomic bomb) on us anytime. We also wouldn’t know where they might drop the bomb at. A lot of people and family will run into shelter or somewhere far and safe till the war is finish.
Also knowing that the life that we use to know just disappear. Staying in the shelter and wondering when the Cold War is going to end and worrying if the Atomic bomb is going to be used to stop this war too or not. Leaving in this frightening world and just to have little hope to pray that we can survive this war.

Living in the 1960's, the height of the Cold War would be very frightening. I would be worried of a potential nuclear war between the two superpowers(United States and Soviet Union)that might of happen anytime soon. It would be a recurring nightmare for myself if I ever experience a atomic bomb attack near my neighborhood. I can't even imagine thousands of people dead, sick, or defected by the cause of the dropping of just one atomic bomb at any random place. I would now understand the pain and suffering that people in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan experienced if an atomic bomb was ever dropped where me and my loved ones lived. People will never live in peace if this dispute between the superpowers continue.

Why? Why did the U.S. have to throw the nuclear bomb? Didn’t they know what they would be starting? A weapon that can annihilate everything and assure victory. It is the 1960’s, and the Cold War is at its climax. We live our life normally, but are all under the threat of nuclear warfare. How are we going to protect ourselves if someone throw’s a nuclear bomb? That’s the most terrifying question of all. Is there even a way to protect oneself from an atomic bomb? I have heard of the destruction this bomb caused in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The chaos, pandemonium, everything was hectic. We can only hope that this war ends peacefully, without death. We have seen too many deaths in the Second World War. This needs to end, but unfortunately we can only hope.

If i was living in 1960 and was a victim of cold war, suffering the threat of Nuclear war, i would be scared. I would probably immigrate to a different country that is not involved in the cold war, and stay there till the war is over and things are back to normal.

Living during the height of the Cold War (1960's) would be like a nightmare. I would be scare of a nuclear war between the United States and Soviet Union. I would be living a constant fear of the nuclear warfare. I would also be scare of the communist threat from the Soviet Union. The government been telling us that the communist people are the bad guy. I have to living in a state that there could be a nuclear bomb droped at anytime. I saw the suffering in Japan when the bomb was droped. I know it in my heart that we could be next.

Life is not fair! I thought tanks and bombs were bad enough, but now that the United States has invented the atomic bomb, I fear that they could drop some on Russia! Living in a big city, I feel I am in danger, and my life is insecure. Nuclear war is such a scary thought. After seeing the destruction in Japan, I never want the world to go under such a crisis again.

When I am alive during the height of Cold War(1960's), I would be very scared. I'll be very afraid since I won't know when i'm going to die from the nuclear bomb. I'll be worried about my death everyday. I won't be concentrated in my works but focused on what the government is planning. I will be also mad how the things are going around.

Everyday I am scared--scared of losing my family, friends, and my country where I live in. Any day we can be completely destroyed and a forgotten country. People are so uptight and jittery. No one relaxes or has fun anymore. In school we're taught to duck under our desks if some kind of "air raid horn" was blown. We live each day like it was our last, but hoping we can live to see another tomorrow.

With the threat of a nuclear war on the horizon I don't know exactly what I would do. This is no longer the age of the baby boomers and the new economies aren't funded by the height of aggression and arms races. There aren't that many nations in the third world to be exploited, because the United States has no rival. What would I do if I lived during the 1960s? I jnow that in High School our administrative officials would have us perform innefective safety drills in which we hide under our desks to in someway stem the damage of a nuclear blast. A blast with the power to incinerate our bodies until the point that no ashes are left. As a student I would protest the arms race between the Soviet Union and Russia. I would try to somehow lead a coalition of average citizens to make our voices heard to the powers that be in government. Convince the world superpowers to halt its nuclear ambitions. Wars like Vietnam served no purpose. I would have been more vocal about the supposed "gulf of Tonkin Incident". An even that never occurred and spurred the armed forces of the United States into Vietnam. The purpose of the Cold War or "war of ideas" was to allow the same dominantly European powers to fight for domination without waisting their own lives. Instead we outsource the third world in a game of chesss to see who could sell their government better. Whoever won would be able to place puppet rulers and political systems in place to support the home power of either one of two industrial nations. The United States run under a capitalist democracy and the U.S.S.R run under a Marxist Communist state. Minorities and ethnic groups made up the mass population of troops deployed be the U.S in Vietnam. I would be very afraid and probably more focused upon my studies, because of that. My uncle Hugo was drafted into Vietnam and contracted the AIDS virus and he was a pretty healthy African American with a strong stature. As a 16 year old male I would be pretty afraid of my chances of draft avoidance. As a soldier the pain of watching innocents die before my eyes on a daily basis, with a horrible strategy for rules of engagement. Such as not being able to attack an enemy until after his artillery and bases of power were finished being deployed. When pursuing an enemy you could never pass the middle border to the north. If my family lived in a place like Russia I would try to develop and underground shelter rather than feeble drills. I would be constantly afraid, but still persevere. What is there to say? The nuclear age is near its end and soon will come the day of the world superstate.

If I lived in the 60s during the cold war.
I would first buy a Panic Room in case a nuclear war occurs. If I were living in a country where there was a fight from the Cold War, my family would be suffering from all the violence in our neighborhood. And I would still have the Panic Room in case soldiers invade our house. I just hope that my neighbors can survive.

I would also visit some events other than the Cold War. I would meet Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., attend the Civil Rights Movement, attend the Woodstock, and prevent Cops from hurting Hippies and Black people.

I am living in a place where fear strikes every fiber of my being. It is the peak of the cold war and i could not be more afraid. I have heard stories that the U.S is going to drop the atomic bomb to attemp to end this war, I feel that that is a bad decision that could have dier conswquences for both the U.S and Japan. I also hear that Hiroshima and Nagasaki are the targats for the bomb, this is very sad.

I think of all the civilians that will be killed, of all the grief, pain and suffering that is soon to come, and i feel as if i want to cry. It is not fair to the children of Japan who wont have a future, to the parents about to say goodbye to their son. I think of the pain that is cirulating around here, this is not what i imagined life to be. My parents are afraid of me going anywhere alone, they are afraid to loose me. I want to close my eyes and foget this is happening, i want to drift away into another place. I just want American to be the happy and stable place that is once was.

World War II is over, but still I fear, for my family, and for myself, we are on the brink of World War III.
Why can't communism and capitalism coexist, don't they understand that if that one nuke is launched, there will be no more economic systems, there will be no more us. I fear there is nowhere to run, all I can do now is just pray that they won't be so stupid, as to fire a nuke. Trying to outdo each other by making more weapons of mass destruction won't do any good in the long run, i hope that my kids, and their kids will be able to see the real beauty of this world, that they won't be left off to pick up the pieces.

It would be horrible to live during this time period. I could imagine the fear all the people had. Having knowledge that any day could be your last day is not a good way to live life. Knowing that theres noting you can do to protect yourself. its just a terrible time to live.

Living back in the 1960`s would be very fearful due to the treats of a nuclear fallout taking place but i would also be somewhat skeptical due to the little information that was released to the general public during the cold war. But none the less fear is a disease and it cant be avoided when you consider the pace that military technology was advancing at along with the U.S holding out in a very fragile state.

If I were to live back in the 1960's during the height of the Cold War, I would be scared for my life. This would change the face of the Earth on the after affects. Part of the world could have been destroyed. Especially living in the U.S. because the Great Depression already has made it's impact and the economy was struggling to climb back to the top of the mountain. If any nuclear weapons hit the U.S. the government could've have gone bankrupt. It would affect the middle class with unemployment rates going up. No food or money. However, in the moment I would be thinking everyday that it would be my last. Anything could happen. I wouldn't know when and if the Soviet Union would set off their nuclear weapons against us.

Living in a Cold War time is terrible. People not knowing how horrible the bomb is live their normal lives. Many of them decided to move on, the rest was hiding in darkness. If I would live during Cold War time, I would try to live, get out of the country and go somewhere where they never seen war. My grand grandfather is 97 he told me a lot about living during war times, he said that in cold war nothing was really happening because people didn't realize what was going on.

The Cold War was the longest period of peace in a the world since Roman times. Coming right after World War II, the biggest most disastrous war in history, the two superpowers spent fifty years threatening each other, competing in every way they could imagine, fighting wars through in the most part of, Korea, Viet Nam and Afghanistan, but not going to war.

In retrospect, I wonder if this was because Washington and Moscow would have been the front lines, and the politicians would have been the first casualties. But at any case, there was no war.
